Recently, I subjected the Milwaukee M18 Fuel cordless snow blower to a significant test – nearly 10 inches of snow, including a dense, freezing rain-affected top layer.
This update to my original review details the experience, highlighting the machine’s performance in challenging conditions.
The initial push through the heavy snowfall was demanding, requiring multiple angled passes to manage the load on the auger and avoiding a full-width approach.
Unlike some other cordless models, I consistently avoided stalling.
However, the real test came with sustained operation, demonstrating a crucial dependency on ample battery power.
My initial tests with four FORGE 12Ah batteries quickly depleted, necessitating a switch to eight FORGE 8Ah batteries, which proved insufficient.
Further experimentation with Milwaukee's older High Output 12Ah batteries only yielded a single bar of charge before failing.
This experience underscored the need for a robust battery supply, leading to a significant investment in Milwaukee’s Super Chargers – two of the 48-59-1815 units.
The test ultimately consumed a staggering combination of FORGE 12Ah, 8Ah, and High Output 12Ah batteries, showcasing the machine’s power but also revealing limitations in the form factor of cordless battery technology.
While it consistently outperformed shoveling, particularly on the lower, icy layers, the experience highlighted the need for a larger battery reserve.
Despite the heavy demands placed on the battery system, the M18 consistently delivered, a fact underscored by its ability to navigate a street plow’s icy buildup.
Considering its compact size and lighter weight compared to a 2-stage model, the Milwaukee M18 Fuel remains a strong contender – a truly superior single-stage option.
However, prospective buyers should be prepared to invest in a sufficient battery infrastructure to fully unlock its capabilities.
This snowfall demonstrated the limits of this type of cordless snow blower, proving that even impressive performance demands adequate power to prevail.
